Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)
Follicular Unit Extraction (also referred to as FUE) is the technique of extracting individual grafts from the scalp. This relatively new technique has been regarded as the best hair transplant for a number of patients.
In the FUE procedure, the surgeon will make a tiny circular incision around each follicular unit. The follicular units are then individually extracted from the scalp. The hairs are given to the surgical team who will check them under the microscope and further trim them if required.
The small holes are left to heal on their own, whilst the Hair Loss NYC surgical team carefully place each of the hairs in the required area.
Although recommended as the best hair transplant for a number of patients, the procedure negates the need for a linear incision at the back and sides of the scalp, resulting in an inevitable scar. Both hair transplant options result in a natural looking hairline, allowing you to achieve wanted results.
This detailed procedure takes time but allows patients to return to normal activities within a couple of days with limitations to exercise, smoking and drinking. With both FUG and FUE, the hair will begin to grow about three months after the procedure. Hair will gradually grow through, ensuring you receive final results about 18 months after surgery.
